First, speaking for ourselves it was a great experience to see everyone once again. It has been our pleasure to make the 2nd Annual Terrier Baseball Reunion a reality and we hope that you have enjoyed seeing old friends as much as we have while celebrating all that was, and still is, BU Baseball.
As we gathered Saturday Night at the Union Street Restaurant in Newton Center, alums were greeted with a package of gifts. Included in the gift packet was a framed 8x10 team picture dated from their time at BU, a photo directory of all the alumni currently in the loop, as well as an alumni newsletter (For those of you that had rsvp'd and didn't make it to the reunion we will be mailing packets to you shortly.) Before turning over the microphone for toasts, impressions, and stories, we did take a few minutes to talk about our alumni "association." The main point we wanted to get across was that we've enjoyed putting this association together and that we intend to keep working to make sure we stay connected in the future and well positioned for future growth.
Some highlights included the toast by Brian "Millie" Cauff doing his 1) Willie McGee impression 2) off-color jokes 3) Soulful renditions of Tracy Chapman's Fast Car and Michael Jackson's Man in the Mirror. Before Brendan Burke took over the microphone for the rest of the night delighting everyone with his oral skills, toasts were given by Coach Mahoney, Chris Aufiero, Bobby Demayo, AJ Schultz, Scott Gray, Taj Tedrow, among others.
Red vs White Games:
Red Team:
Chris Aufiero, Mike Brown, Greg Claffey, Bobby Demayo, Anthony DiIeso, Mike Greaney, Mark Lewis, Frank McManus, Brian Millstein
White Team:
Mike Anselmo, Danny Barrett, Brendan Burke, Scott Gray, AJ Schultz, Andy Whigham and Current BU Club Team Guys (and hired guns) Sean Grieve, Donnie Gerelamo, Dave D'onofrio
Game 1
Sloppy defense by the Red team set the stage for an unearned run extravaganza set off by a Grand Slam off Brian Millstein by former pitcher Brendan Burke. Chris Aufiero, meanwhile, pulled all three groins while attempting to beat out an infield single. The White team also gained from a stunning pitching performance from AJ Schultz in his first outing as a BU Hurler in either baseball or softball. White team wins in a blowout.
Game 2
Another grand slam by a former pitcher on the White Team. This time Mike Anselmo does the damage. White team wins easily again. Red team right fielder Bobby Demayo declares that the Red Team will not eat or leave the field until they win a game. Best 2 out of 3 series lengthened despite increasingly debilitating soreness.
Game 3
An exciting finish to the end of our triple header. With the Red Team leading 5-3 heading into the last of the 7th, Millie on the mound again for the red team facing the meat of the white team lineup, instantly gave up back to back bombs to Scott Gray and Brendan Burke to even up the score and send us to extra innings. With the aroma of steak and sausage blowing over the field from the grill, the red team was finally inspired to victory with the main blow being a Frank McManus homerun. Red Team Wins 9-6 in extra innings.
We hope that all of you will keep in touch and get involved where possible. Finally, it’s never to early to save the date for the 3rd Annual Terrier Baseball Reunion..... |
