Finals’ week is an extremely busy time around campus, but this year we gladly took time to participate in the ninth annual holiday reading program. The baseball team, along with varsity athletes and the dance team, brought some holiday cheer to a number of local elementary schools, where we read and interacted with second-grade students.
The initiative brought over 100 Terrier athletes to six local elementary schools and the Franciscan Children’s Hospital. Afterwards each second grade student was presented with one of the books that had been read, and each classroom was presented with a book and stuffed animal for the classroom on behalf of Barnes and Noble and Boston University.
We realize that being an athlete at BU is both a responsibility and privilege. Our goal is to represent BU well on and off the field. We truly enjoyed reading to the kids, talking to them about the importance of studding hard to go to college and the value of playing sports. Although this was the programs first community service project we are planning many future community service initiatives.
We look forward to getting back into the swing of things when we return to campus, in January. The spring season is only a couple of blisters and wind sprints away. It will be here before we know it. Of course, we look forward to your support this season as we put together an exciting spring schedule. |
