2009 fall tryouts and more...

The fall semester is just around the corner, w hich means the fall season is creeping closer by the day. Tryouts for the BU club baseball team will likely take place either the first or second week of the fall semester. Incoming freshman, be sure to keep an eye out for the BU baseball table at SPLASH on Tuesday, Sept. 1, or check back here near the end of August for official tryout dates. Of course, tryouts aren't limited only to freshman, and we routinely take on players who have already been in school, so feel encouraged to check back for dates and come try out. For more information on the team, don't hesitate to contact the club baseball president, Josh Cabana, at cabana@bu.edu.

Stay posted for information about the 2009-10 BU Baseball Reunion Golf Outing. The event will take place in the spring, likely during Patriot's Day weekend. More information will be posted in the coming months.

Also, as the fall approaches, we encourage you to stop and check for updates on the BU Baseball Hall of Fame. For more information, please contact Jack Mahoney at mahoney@mcttelecom.com.

Three Terriers Earn NECBA All-Star Recognition

Three BU baseball players were represented on the NECBA North Division All-Star squad -- senior Chris McIsaac, junior Josh Cabana and sophomore Brendan Blake.

The threesome anchored the middle of the BU line-up during the fall NECBA season, helping propell the Terriers to a 9-2 record in the conference and a second place regular season finish. 2008 saw BU's first action back in the NECBA since leaving the league after 2005. McIsaac, Cabana and Blake are the first Terreirs to be honored by the conference since Pete Lawn and Craig O'Connell were recognized in 2005.

Terriers Drop 2 of 3 to SUNY-Cortland in Opening Weekend Action

After inclimate weather postponed Saturday's scheduled double-header, BU kicked off it's 2009 spring season in fitting fashion, playing a triple-header against first-place SUNY-Cortland.

Despite a strong outing from senior pitcher Randy Forrester and a 3-for-4 performance by sophomore Jon Susko at the plate, the Terriers found themselves trailing by two heading into the bottom of the seventh. BU loaded the bases and plated one run, but were unable to push across the equalizer, dropping game one, 4-3.

In game two, the Terriers' bats came alive, plating six runs in the first three innings. Sophomore Brendan Blake drove in two runs with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, but the Terriers once again found themselves trailing in the bottom of the seventh. Down by four, junior Josh Cabana and senior Dan Korney led the Terriers off with a pair of walks, followed by a single to right field by freshman Mike Robinson. Senior Chris McIsaac plated a run with a base knock up the middle. Junior Kevin Kravitz, Blake and Susko followed with bases-loaded walks, leaving the game tied with one out and the bases loaded for junior Charlie King. King worked the count to 3-2 before taking a pitch in the ribs, plating the winning run in a 12-11 BU victory.

Game three saw the Terriers fall in an early hole, trailing 5-1 after two innings. BU battled back, pushing across three runs in the fourth inning, but a four-run top seventh for Cortland all but burried the Terriers, as the Red Dragons took the third-leg, 11-5.

2009 Spring Season Kicks Off This Weekend

Unfortunately, inclimate weather has forced BU and SUNY-Cortland to postpone Saturday's action. In an attempt to still complete the season series this weekend, the teams have agreed to try to play a triple-header Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. Check back at TerrierBaseball.com for more updates.

Hall of Fame

The BU Club Baseball team would like to extend a thank you to those who attended the Hall of Fame Induction ceremony on Nov. 15. The event was a huge success, and would not have been possible without your support.

Also, congragulations again to this year's charter inductees. The Hall of Fame is still under construction, and bio's and photos of the inductees should be available in the near future. In the meantime, we recommend that you check out the Photo section of the website for pictures of Terrier ball-players, past and present.

Fall Recap

The 2008 fall season was a good one for the Terriers. The team finished 14-5 overall, earning a second place finish in NECBA's North Division, trailing cross-town rival Northeastern by just a game and a half.

The Terriers drew the Maine Black Bears in the first round of the NECBA playoffs. BU fell behind early in the contest, and heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Bears held a 6-1 lead. However, the BU offense exploded in the bottom half of the frame, batting around twice enroute to a 12-run inning.

The Black Bears charged back with a four-run top of the eigth, but the Terriers responded in the bottom half of the inning. A three-run home run by senior co-captain Dan Korney all but buried the Bears, and when junior Josh Cabana pulled in a pop-up for the game's final out, the scoreboard read BU 20, Maine 11.

Unfortunately, the Terriers couldn't handle the Northeastern Huskies in the second round, bowing out of the NECBA playoffs with a 12-1 loss.

All things considered, the fall season was a successful one for the Terriers, who had to overcome an injury-decimated pitching staff. Several Terrier hitters stepped up to the challenge, including Cabana and senior co-captian Chris McIsaac, both of whom contributed numerous big hits at various points of the season.

The Terriers finished the fall portion of their NCBA schedule with a 4-2 record, good enough to be sitting in second place. BU will resume conference play in an April 4 showdown with first place SUNY-Cortland.
