Terriers go 1-2 in opening weekend action

The BU club baseball team kicked off its season with three home games over the weekend, dropping a Friday night decision to Northeastern, 11-6, before splitting a double header with Holy Cross Saturday.

For the majority of the game Friday, junior Brendan Blake neutralized a strong Huskie offense. Unfortunately, Northeastern got to BU with a big second inning, digging the Terriers into a hole they wouldn't be able to climb out of.

Pitching was the name of the game of the Terriers on Saturday. Even though the squad dropped game one of the twin-billing, 6-3, a strong outing by lefty junior George "Mac" Hewett served as a positive sign. In game two, sophomore Neal Eisler began his club baseball career with a quick, efficient four innings of work before giving way to senior Will Underkuffler. Coupled with an explosive game by the Terrier offense, BU mercy ruled the Crusaders iin the bottom of the fifth inning, walking away with a 13-3 win.

Spadafino returns as manager; Mastroianni named assistant

The BU club baseball team is proud to announce the return of Brian Spadafino as the Terriers' skipper. Spadafino headed the squad for two and a half seasons before departing in the spring to coach the baseball team at the high school at which he teaches.

Mastroianni, a Class of 2008 alumni, spent time working with the team as an assistant under Spadafino last fall.

Additionally, the 2009 fall season schedule has been released, and can be viewed on the Schedule page.

Stay posted for information about the 2009-10 BU Baseball Reunion Golf Outing. The event will take place in the spring, likely during Patriot's Day weekend. More information will be posted in the coming months.

Also, as the fall approaches, we encourage you to stop and check for updates on the BU Baseball Hall of Fame. For more information, please contact Jack Mahoney at mahoney@mcttelecom.com.

Three Terriers Earn NECBA All-Star Recognition

Three BU baseball players were represented on the NECBA North Division All-Star squad -- senior Chris McIsaac, junior Josh Cabana and sophomore Brendan Blake.

The threesome anchored the middle of the BU line-up during the fall NECBA season, helping propell the Terriers to a 9-2 record in the conference and a second place regular season finish. 2008 saw BU's first action back in the NECBA since leaving the league after 2005. McIsaac, Cabana and Blake are the first Terreirs to be honored by the conference since Pete Lawn and Craig O'Connell were recognized in 2005.
